Athena was born and raised in Santa Paula, California. She moved down to the beautiful City of San Diego to attend San Diego State University to earn her Bachelor of Public Administration and is now attending USC online to earn her Master of Public Administration.
Before joining the Office of Supervisor Vargas, Athena worked for various local governments including the City of Santa Paula, the County of Ventura, and the County of San Diego. In these roles, Athena cooked and delivered meals to homebound seniors, planned recreational events and programs for low-income youth, and assisted with project management and various administrative tasks. She also has participated in various student government roles and community organizations for the past 11 years.
Athena is motivated and inspired by her upbringing in an immigrant family and community. She is dedicated to facilitating an efficient, transparent, and supportive government that works with the communities that it serves.
