Devonna Almagro
Director of Communications and Binational Affairs

A seasoned communications and political strategist, Devonna Almagro brings two decades of experience working at the intersection of communications, community, and politics. Prior to joining Supervisor Nora Vargas’ Office, Devonna served as Principal for Ilumina Public Relations, where she spearheaded strategic planning initiatives for nonprofits, businesses, and political campaigns. 
 

Through her PR career, Devonna has managed a portfolio of education clients where she has led communications programs for publicly funded school infrastructure projects in San Diego and Los Angeles Counties. Devonna began her career serving as an aide to U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, followed by working field operations for candidates and initiatives throughout Southern California. Devonna previously served as Executive Director of the Sherman Heights Community Center and is currently part of the organization’s Board of Directors.
 

Born and raised in the border cities of Calexico, CA and Mexicali, Baja California, Devonna has called San Diego home for the past 23 years after moving to pursue a dual degree in Ethnic Studies and Spanish from the University of San Diego. Devonna has earned recognition for her leadership and civic engagement by the City of San Diego and was named a 2017 Woman of the Year honoree for the 80th Assembly District by the California Legislature.
